Gianantonio Allegri and Sister Gilberte BussiƩre, a Canadian nun from the Notre Dame congregation in Montreal, who were abducted in Cameroon on 4 April this year, have been released. Vatican Radio reported the news. The three religious were kidnapped by two armed groups from their residences in the diocese of Maroua, in northern Cameroon.

The release of the two Italian missionary priests and the Canadian nun is news that fills us with joy. “The Holy Father, who had followed the dramatic story from the outset, was promptly informed. We thank God that this incident has come to a successful conclusion,” the Vatican spokesman, Fr. Federico Lombardi said.
